Welcome to my Blog

Hey y'all! It's me TheCrochetWitch. How did I get this name? When did I start crafting? What other things will I tell you about? All of this and more will be answered today.

 First off, welcome! You have landed on my blog because something of mine has drawn you here. Let me introduce myself a little more. I am a 29 year old mother of one and I enjoy crafting anything I can get my hands on. My first love is crochet. A few years ago my son was born prematurely and I became severely depressed. I had been shown how to do a very basic double crochet stitch a few years prior and decided to go to YouTube to learn something useful with crochet. I had one hook and one skein of yarn and made my tiny baby a hat. It actually didn't fit! I practiced until I was able to make the perfect one and then I discovered my absolute love for crafting. 

 This past year I got a tattoo on my birthday to symbolize how very special crochet is to me and my own struggle to free myself from depression.
I adore this tattoo and it continues to be one of my favorites.

 During the years, I have established a deep fan base who like me all those years ago, have no idea how to crochet. Thus, the name TheCrochetWitch was born. I will soon start to produce my own crochet patterns and they will be posted here for free because who doesn't like free! 

 My other loves in craft are cross stitch, drawing/coloring, baking sweets and cooking my family a beautiful dinner. I hope that you all will enjoy seeing these from me in the future!

Mother's Day is fast approaching! Today I wanted to share a little story about what crafting and being a mother means to me <3 My son is approaching 5, which means that Kindergarten is fast approaching. The History of Crochet

There are many speculations that it was invented before that time but it is commonly confused with a different form of looped yarn. The actual word crochet is French, meaning 'small hook'. There are so many different forms of crochet that I love like Tunisian crochet, broomstick lace, Amigurumi, tapestry crochet and cro-hooking, just to name a few.  In the UK, the terminology for a basic single crochet is called a double crochet, but there is one universal form of terminology used for every country.
